2010 Welcome Back Fall Kick-off Activities
Award Criteria
Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member of the Year
Each year, College of DuPage selects its Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member of the Year through a process which begins with nominations from students, proceeds to the submission of written materials by nominees and culminates with a selection committee comprised of faculty members, student representatives, administrators, and a Trustee. The Vice-President of Academic Affairs chairs this committee. Written materials submitted by College-Wide Full-Time Faculty nominees answer the following questions:
- Excellence in Teaching: Comment on what makes you an excellent teacher, both in and out of the classroom setting.
- Innovation/Leadership: Describe your non-teaching contributions to COD, emphasizing the following areas – curriculum work, teaching or special committee service, educational associations, awards and honors.
- Community Involvement: Describe those activities in District 502 and/or in your home community that illustrate your involvement or contribution.
- Professional Development: Describe those activities you perform to keep pace with new developments and discoveries.
Outstanding Division Faculty of the Year
Outstanding Faculty members from each of the academic divisions of the College are nominated within the unit, and the nominations are reviewed by a screening committee comprised of unit members whose final selection is based on the following criteria:
- Excellence in teaching
- Service to the unit and the College
- Scholarly activity
- Community service
- Advising
Outstanding Part-Time Faculty of the Year
Beginning with the 2005-2006 fiscal year, College of DuPage initiated a new award for a College-Wide Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Member. This process is the same as for Full-Time Faculty members. College-wide adjunct faculty nominees are asked the same four questions as above and submit a curricula vitae or resume.
Outstanding Advisors
In November 2001, College of DuPage chartered the AQIP 2 Action Project: Improving Student Advising. One of the results of the Continuous Improvement (CI) Team’s work was to recognize those individuals who excel in academic advising. Subsequently, in 2005, COD’s “Outstanding Adviser Award” was developed. These awards also begin with nominations submitted by students.
