Finding Computer Science Materials in the Library
Online Searching
- To find books, videos, software and other items in the Library, click on "Library Catalog" at the top of any page in the Library website. This will take you to the Library Online Catalog.
- Using the catalog, you can search for books and videos by title, author, subject or keyword.
- If you don't know the title or author, try searching by keyword.
Use search terms that are specific to your topic when doing keyword searches:
- Linux
- cybercrime
- "bill gates"
- c# AND .net
Using specific keywords such as proper names, combining keywords, and using keyword phrases are good ways to find exactly what you are looking for.
Browsing
You can also browse the Reference collection and the General collection for computing and technology resources. Begin by browsing some of the call number areas below:
- QA75.5 - 76.95 - Computer science. Electronic data processing.
- TK5101 - TK6720 - Telecommunications.
- TK5105.88 - Web publishing.
- TK7800 - TK8360 - Electronics.
- TK7885 - TK7895 - Computer Engineering.
Locate these areas in the collections using the Library Directions, Maps & Virtual Tour pages.
Can I check out books, videos, computer software and audiotapes and take them home with me?
Yes -- most of general collection items can be checked out for FREE!
Videos and audiotapes can be checked out for one week.
Most books can be checked out for three weeks.
The only books that cannot be checked out have the letters REF on the label on the side or front of the book. REF means the book is a Reference book and can only be used in the Library. Some items in the CCIC (College and Career Information Center) may also be in-Library use only.
You need a C.O.D. Library Card to check things out of the library. You can get a Library card at the Circulation Desk located near the entrance to the Library.

Computer Science Databases
Online Articles

The Library provides access to many online article databases that will help you locate journal, magazine, and newspaper articles. You can search by keyword, subject, author and title.
Articles in the Library

The Library has current copies of the following computing journals and magazines in the current periodicals section of the Library. Issues that are more than a year or two old can usually be found in the microfilm area of the Library.
Articles from Other Libraries

You can use Interlibrary Loan to request articles that are unavailable from article databases or the C.O.D. Library. Other libraries will send us either electronic or a print versions of articles you request. This is a free service offered to anyone who has a current C.O.D. Library Card.
